10 things you should know about financial planners

Best practice suggests that if you are looking for a financial planner to help you with any financial service, from wealth management to retirement planning, you should consider ten things about your chosen financial services company.

Below are ten questions you should consider when choosing an independent financial adviser or certified financial planner, and Rouse Limited’s answer to each of them.

1. What experience do your financial planners or financial advisers have?

All of the team at Rouse Limited are training under the Institute of Financial Planning programmes, and our financial planners are qualified in many aspects of wealth management and financial planning. Have a look at our About Us pages for further information on our financial expertise and experience.

2. What qualifications do your financial planners or financial advisers have?

Please download a PDF here to see the qualifications that our financial planners have attained.

3. What financial services do they offer?

All of our financial services are defined on our Products and Services pages.

4. What is their approach to financial planning?

Rouse Limited believe that financial planning is about managing your money and maximising your investments so that you can achieve your life goals. We will work with you to help you identify and achieve the plans that you have for your money, so that you don’t have to.

5. Will they be the only person working with me?

We have a great team of financial planners and support staff at Rouse Limited and we hope that you will enjoy working with all of our team.

6. How will I pay for their financial services?

At Rouse Limited we have a number of different payment methods of paying for our financial services. Have a look at our Products and Services pages for more details.

7. How much does a financial services company typically charge?

This depends on the type of financial service that you are looking for: again, have a look at the Products and Services pages for more details about our tariffs and charges.

8. Could anyone beside me benefit from their recommendations?

Although at Rouse Limited we can work with you as an individual client, we are very happy to work with couples, or to take into account whole family situations and help you all plan for your financial future. Please do talk to us about your whole situation, and we would be very happy to work with family members, or friends or partners if you would like to recommend us to them.

9. Have they ever been publically disciplined for any unlawful or unethical actions in their professional career?

None of our members of staff have ever been involved in any unlawful or unethical actions.

10. Can I have it in writing?

We always provide FSA (Financial Services Authority) approved documentation for all of the advice that we will give you, as part of our best practice process.

The Institute of Financial Planning (IFP) provide a PDF download here of these questions and a checklist for interviewing a prospective financial planner or financial adviser.
